November 5 Guy Fawkes Night
Remember, remember the 5th of November. Tonight marks the failure back in 1605 of old Guy Fawkes of the infamous Gunpowder Plot to blow up the British Parliament.
In jolly olde England, it is also called Bonfire night or Fireworks night, which would account for all the bonfires and fireworks.
Prep DVD History Lesson: Get "V for Vendetta" starring a shaved Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving in a very cool mask. Do shots of Jagger, as usual, your official preparty prep in order to get in the moood.
Prep Decor: Start this celebration of failed terrorism by playing the 1812 Orchestra out of 200 surround-sound speakers while blazin' up with a big bonfire, not too close to National Forests or your girlfriend's car.
Dress: Guy Fawkes Masks and capes.
Grub: Bonfire food like marshmellows, weenies, or a roast suckling Irish babies (in honor of the wonderful Brits of times gone by)
Drink: Flamers followed
by Brit beer. Music: Brit artists like Amy Winehouse, Jamelia, Noel Gallagher, Damon Albarn or Dido, all of whom are reputed to like to "fire up" or do Old Brit Music like maybe the Beatles.
Conversation: Discuss why Brit's celebrate this holiday which is really a Terrorist Event like Pearl Harbor Day or 9/11 or Bush's first election. Or take the opposing point of view, as the V flic did and rail on about fighting for freedom, dignity, and wouldn't it be cool to blow up Parliment or if you can't afford the airfare, our own Congress, and if that is too dangerous, at least hijack the Fox News Studios like V did the BBC in the movie.
